Point of the Baths of Caracalla
An Intermodal transportation hub and access point for the archaeological city of Rome. This project developed over the course of an intense week of international collaboration between multiple universities in Rome.
The project area, located in the current headquarters of the Eurogarden nursery, next to the Baths of Caracalla, performs the function of a new access and exchange node to the Central Archaeological Area. Within the site there will be a system of arrivals and departures of tourist buses and public transport by road, cycle paths, tourist accommodation, catering services and museum and cultural activities.
The project tackles the problem of the fast flow on via Colombo and via Baccelli, which currently internally divides the project area. Our international workshop team developed a project proposal both at an architectural level and in a landscape level capable of activating the area's surroundings: the Antoninian aqueduct, the mausoleum of Fabio Cilone, the Aurelian walls, and the Baths of Caracalla.
